I would say I am an active person. Hiking and kayaking are some of my favorite things, I just don't do them regularly. I am busy working side jobs, building my business, having a relationship and a family. With all the stuff I do regularly, exercise was rarely one of them.

Two weeks ago, I rolled over in bed, I immediately grabbed my phone and started answering emails. I would check Facebook, and manage my deadlines.  A list of never ending to-dos was how I started my morning, and I was doing this every day. For the first time, I realized just how much stress I was bringing into my life by always working. I put my phone down and went for a run. It was hard and it sucked. I haven't run since college but I knew something needed to change. I needed a new routine.

Every day for the past two weeks I get up, put on workout clothes and force myself to get outside. Sometimes I walk, sometimes I jog, either way I push myself to do at least two miles. Now, I only answer emails in the morning and I am done working by six pm.

The work-a-holic in me had the hardest time adjusting but the most amazing thing has happened, I have more energy, I am more productive and I am more efficient. I am getting more work done in less time and my creative juices are flowing. I am in a better mood and I naturally eat better. I never imagined that such a simple walk/jog would change my life so drastically.

To those of you like me who don't think you have the time to exercise, change your thinking and start small. Even a walk around the neighborhood will do!  A better Work/Life balance is the essential to being a happier you.
